FAQs

We've put together a bunch of frequently asked questions.
This website is still a beta, so we are still developing new tools and adding functionality to the site

What can I do with Dilogs?

Dilogs is a social network and a tool to keep track of all your dives.
Each time you enter a dive you are also feeding additional data to our database, which allows us to provide all the users in our community with valuable dive site information.
All dive sites are created and administered by the users themselves, and the information available for each site is public.
We are working on a set of tools that will allow dive shops to announce their events and their own reviews of each dive site. They will also be available to sign your dive, so you can have a certified log.

How can I upload a picture to my profile?

You can do this by going to the My Profile section.

Can other users see my dives and my personal information?

No, your dives and personal information are private.
The only information made available to other users is your contact information, and it will be displayed only to those users you add to your friends list.
We use some data to calculate our stats, but it's gathered anonymously so it doesn't tie back to the individual user.
The information that's made public is your username and geographical location, and it's available to logged in users only.
None of your personal information will be displayed to anybody that's not on your friends list.

What's that number that shows up next to the username?

That number is the user's ranking. The ranking is basically a way to categorize the users that contribute the most to the site by entering dives, events and activities.
The users without a number are the ones that don't participate in our site.

I have a Dilos Desktop account. How can I import my old dives?

Your dives have been automatically migrated from the previous version of Dilogs. We suggest you go over your data in case some dives have the wrong dive site assigned.

How can I make a backup of my dives?

All your dives can be downloaded in XML format. You can download your data as many times as you want from the dives section.

Can I import my dives from a diving computer?

You can import these dives by using third party applications that use our API.
If you want to load a profile with specific information, send us an email to info[arroba]dilogs.com and we'll try to help you out.

What is my username for? Do I really need it?

The username is basically what we use to identify you throughout the site.
You don't really need it, but it's better if you enter one or a number will be used instead.

What happens if I enter a wrong dive site?

Our application automatically analizes all the new dive sites. This way we'll know if the dive site is a potential error.
The dive site description and coordinates will be automatically updated, just give it some time.
You can report dive sites with wrong information by sending an email to info[arroba]dilogs.com
We'll soon have a tool that will allow users to modify the dive sites.

How can I visualize the contents using Google Earth?

First you need to download the application from http://earth.google.com
Once you have the application, you need to install the KML file and open it with Google Earth:

Can I develop my own applications using the Dilogs engine?

Yes. There's a free an open application programmers interface (API). All you have to do is request a developer key, and read the documentation of all the available methods.
